CCBE seminar “Threatened lawyers: The end of the rule of law in Europe?”

25.01.2018

Łukasz Lasek took part in a seminar of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) on 24 January 2018 accompanying the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe during which a recommendation was adopted in support of drafting a European convention on the profession of lawyer.

On 24 January 2018 the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted Recommendation 2121 (2018) entitled “The case for drafting a European convention on the profession of lawyer.” The move comes in response to growing pressures and even physical attacks on lawyers in member states of the Council of Europe.

Before the debate and voting on the recommendation, a seminar organised by CCBE was held at the headquarters of the Council of Europe under the title “Threatened lawyers: The end of the rule of law in Europe?”

The aim of the seminar was to present arguments on the need for development and adoption of a European convention on the profession of lawyer. Representing Poland at the seminar were legal adviser Maria Ślązak and adwokat Łukasz Lasek.
